We have gathered footage for our short film which is going to be of the Horror/Thriller Genre. In our short movie, one of the key themes denoted in this is isolation as the short film is set in the COVID-19 national pandemic. The viewers attention is drawn to the empty swings which is a semantic code of what could happen to the characters later on in the film. At the beginning of our short film, we capture an empty park: a place that is normally bustling with life completely deserted. This would make the viewers feel uneasy and unsettled, as a place like the park is normally filled with a lot of people but instead it is all empty and feels lonely. The main character wishes that she could be outside there with her friends like before the lockdown had occurred.
We also chose to film in the alleyway, a place that is usually scene as a dark, mysterious and intimidating place for some. They are also perceived as dangerous places. As the main character is alone, it connotes that the viewers could possibly find her to be in danger. Capturing footage in the alleyway would be apt as we want our short film to be mysterious and unsettling to viewers. Some viewers may even feel paranoid as they do not know what is going to happen in the alleyway where the main character is left by themselves, anything could happen.
As the short film is set in a pandemic, our characters have to resort to meeting on a Zoom call. In the footage, the characters are all alone (or so the viewers think they are); they are in the darkness of their rooms, worried about what could happen to them or what/who could be lurking in the darkness of their rooms. This connotes an action code as the viewers are prepared for something bad to happen, the scene gets more tense as viewers anticipate what is going to happen next and if the characters are going to meet their demise.
